Big Girl Bed!

I have been fretting and dreading this weekend for a while now. We’ve had Alice’s “big girl” bed in her room for about 3 weeks. Originally, we placed the bed on the opposite side of the crib and really talked it up. We read books on the big girl bed, laid down together on the big girl bed, etc, but when I’d ask Alice if she wanted to go night-night on the big girl bed, her immediate answer was, “No, crib,” as she’d jump out of the bed and run to her crib. I was planning on waiting a little while longer before transitioning her, however, after doing my research online (what did we do before the Internet?) I read that it’s important to transition your toddler at least 2 months before the new baby’s arrival. Well, that would be about now. . .

Andy and I came home from work on Friday while Alice was still at Papa’s house to take the crib out of her bedroom and into the garage. I figured if it was still in her room, she would definitely throw a fit to sleep in it. We then moved the twin bed into the same spot as her crib so it would still feel familiar.

When Alice came home, I took her into her room to see her bed. It was crazy. She didn’t even ask where her crib went. It was like she didn’t even notice!

We watched Nora all evening so Alice was pretty worn out by the time we put her to bed at 8:30. We went through the usual bedtime routine and she went right to sleep! She didn’t mention the crib or act scared in the least bit. She slept completely through the night and even napped in her bed the next day. Whew! All that fretting for nothing . . . Now, let’s just hope she doesn’t regress when we bring the crib back into the room after the baby arrives. :)

I snuck in after she feel asleep to get a picture of the big night. She looked HUGE in her crib, now she looks so tiny in her twin bed.

"Nastics"

The past 7 weeks, Alice has been taking her parent and tot gymnastics lessons. It started out as a mommy and me class, but now daddy is taking over since mommy is too pregnant to lift and spot. She loooooves "nastics." She asks to wear her "leotard" at home, and says "Yeah, nastics!" in the car on the way to the gym. She is too cute! She peeks in the door window before class asking "ready?" then answers herself by saying, "wait a little bit?" As soon as the doors open for her class, she sprints in without hesitation looking for her special dot to stand on. Since Alice is such a cautious child, gymnastics has really encouraged her to climb, jump, and swing, and just be adventurous. Who knows, maybe Alice will be the next (really tall) Mary Lou Retton :)

Baby Shower for Sophia and Cait

We showered Cait in baby gifts this Saturday! Mom and I chose Serendipity Tea Room in Carmel for the location. It was nice not having to host and prepare food being 7 month pregnant. The food was delicious and the company was great. I even enjoyed the tea (and I'm not one to like the taste of tea). We are all so excited for baby Sophia's arrival. I had forgotten about all the little baby items I need to prepare before May.

So thankful both Cait's mom and Nana were able to make the shower.

Alice and the Belly . . .

Our friend Nick Ioannacci (www.soundtrackphoto.com) made the trip up to Sheridan on Saturday night to try and capture Alice and her "baby sister." Alice wasn't very cooperative (if only two year-olds would pose the way you want them to), and I am thrilled Nick was able to get these great shots in between her crying/refusal fits :)

I'm entering the 3rd trimester this week. . . we are all looking forward to May and ready for baby sister to join our world!

SNOW!

We headed out in the snow for about . . . . . 10 minutes before Alice was "all done!" We were able to get a few good shots before she was ready to take off her boots

And the "snow bunny" in action . . . the last 10 seconds of the video explains how Alice really feels about snow. She calls it "icky" and wants to "walk" back inside the house whether Andy and I were planning on following her or not. Pretty cute!
